33 candidates from 8 parties contest six seats

The battle for parliamentary seats in Khulna has intensified as 33 prospective candidates from eight political parties collected nomination papers for six constituencies ahead of the upcoming national election.

According to election officials, the aspirants include 10 from the BNP, six from Jamaat-e-Islami, three each from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlish and the Jatiya Party, one from Jatiyatabadi Ganatantrik Andolan, one from Islamic Front-an alliance of a section of the Jatiya Party-and three independent candidates.

In Khulna-1, BNP’s Amir Ejaz Khan and Jamaat’s Krishna Nandi joined the race alongside independent aspirant and former Chhatra Dal leader Govinda Halder. Jatiya Party’s Md Jahangir Hossain and CPB’s Kishore Kumar Roy also collected nomination papers, while Jatiya Party presidium member Sunil Shuvo Roy picked up forms as a candidate of the Combined National Alliance.

For Khulna-2, nomination papers were collected by BNP’s Nazrul Islam Manju and metropolitan general secretary ShafiqulAlamTuhin, Jamaat’s Sheikh Jahangir HussainHelal, IslamiAndolan’s Mufti AmanUllah and KhelafatMajlish’sMdShahidul Islam.
In Khulna-3, BNP’s Rakibul Islam Bakul, Jamaat’sMahfuzurRahman, IslamiAndolan’s Hafez Abdul Awal, Nationalist Democratic Movement’s Sheikh ArmanHossain and KhelafatMajlish’s FM HarunOr Rashid entered the fray, along with independents AbdurRoufMollah and AbulHasnatSiddique.
Nomination papers for Khulna-4 were collected by BNP’s Azizul Bari Helal, Jamaat’sMdKabirul Islam, IslamiAndolan’s Hafez MaulanaYunus Ahmed, KhelafatMajlish’sMaulana SM SakhawatHossain, Jatiya Party’s Syed AbulKashem and independent ASM AjmalHossain.
In Khulna-5, BNP’s Ali AzgarLobi and Shafi Mohammad Khan, Jamaat’s Mia GolamParwar and MollaMosharrafHossainMofiz, CPB’s ChittaRanjanHalder and Jatiya Party’s ShamimAraParvin collected nomination papers.
