Zadran breaks record with 177 against England in ICC Champions Trophy

Ibrahim Zadran of Afghanistan has etched his name in the history books of the ICC Champions Trophy. The right-handed Afghan opener delivered an incredible performance against England team smashing 177 runs the highest individual score in the tournament’s history.
His remarkable knock broke Ben Duckett’s record of 165 which was set earlier in the same tournament.
Ibrahim’s 146-ball innings laced with six fours and three sixes was a masterclass in ODI cricket.
The Afghan opener showed his intent from the start scoring consistently and taking full advantage of the English bowlers. This century marked his first against England in just 35 ODIs and was the 10th century in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
What’s even more impressive is that Zadran now holds the record for the highest score by an Afghan batter in ICC tournaments going beyond his previous best of 162 against Sri Lanka in 2022.
With six centuries in his first 35 ODIs, Zadran has joined an elite group of batters who’ve achieved similar milestones.
Only Pakistan’s Babar Azam has scored more hundreds (7) in the same period. Other greats like Shubman Gill, Hashim Amla, and Quinton de Kock have also reached the six-century mark in their early ODI careers.
