Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Prof Muhammad Yunus has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law. He has called on all individuals associated with Bangladesh’s judicial system, including police, prosecutors, and judges, to work towards maintaining the rule of law.

He came up with the statement following the publication of the fact-finding report unveiled by the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

“Together with all individuals serving in the interim government and millions of citizens, I am committed to transforming Bangladesh into a country where all people can live with security and dignity,” the Chief Advisor stated.

The interim government has thanked the OHCHR for conducting a thorough investigation and publishing a detailed report on the repression, persecution, and killings carried out by the Sheikh Hasina government and the Awami League against students, workers, and the general public in Bangladesh during July-August.

“The report indicates that under Sheikh Hasina’s rule, there has been a ‘structural deficit’ in law enforcement and the justice sector in Bangladesh over the years,” Prof Yunus said.

“We aim to build a society where everyone can live with security and dignity, and for that, reforming these institutions is crucial,” he added. With a clarion call, he asserted, “I call on everyone working within these institutions to uphold justice, the rule of law, and the rights of the people of Bangladesh.
