Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has called on political parties to show a stronger and more visible unity against fascist forces, warning that any perceived disunity could embolden those trying to destabilize the democratic process.

“Despite ideological differences and rivalries, political parties must visibly unite against fascism. Otherwise, the defeated forces will exploit the gap,” Yunus said during a meeting with leaders of 13 political parties and alliances at the State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday.

Reflecting on last year’s July Uprising, he said, “Our intention was to bring all parties together to honor that moment and stand united against fascist threats. But now, a year later, we’re beginning to see signs of renewed conspiracies by those very forces.”

The meeting was attended by key opposition leaders, including Syed Hasibuddin Hossain (Rashtra Sangskar Andolan), Zonayed Saki (Gana Samhati Andolan), Mujibur Rahman Manju (AB Party), Shahidullah Kaiser (Nagorik Oikya), Nurul Haque Nur (Gana Adhikar Parishad), Redwan Ahmed (LDP), Dr Ahmad Abdul Quader (Khelafat Majlis), Saiful Haque (Biplobi Workers Party), Tania Rob (JSD), Shahadat Hossain Selim (12-Party Alliance), Bazlur Rashid Firoz (BSD), Ruhin Hossain Prince (CPB), and Dr Mizanur Rahman (Gano Forum).

Participants unanimously expressed the need for continued unity among political and civil forces to confront rising extremism and uphold democratic reforms. They urged Yunus to intensify efforts to ensure law and order and pledged their support for the ongoing electoral and justice reforms.

They also called for more frequent all-party consultations to maintain momentum and ensure broad-based coordination ahead of the upcoming national elections.

Wednesday’s discussion followed a high-level meeting on Tuesday night, where Yunus met with leaders from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, the National Citizen Party (NCP), and Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
