Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is set to hold high-level bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on March 28, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations and discussing key issues of mutual interest between Bangladesh and China.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam confirmed the scheduled meeting during a press briefing on Wednesday. “A bilateral meeting with the President of China is scheduled for March 28,” he told reporters, adding that discussions are ongoing to finalize the agenda for the high-level talks.
Professor Yunus is expected to depart for China on March 26 in the afternoon. His visit will include participation in the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference, where he is scheduled to deliver a speech at the opening plenary session on March 27.
Later that day, Yunus is expected to meet with the Executive Vice President of China’s State Council for discussions on economic cooperation and regional development. On March 28, the Chief Adviser will hold the anticipated bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The discussions are likely to cover trade, investment, infrastructure development, and regional cooperation.
Following the high-level talks, Yunus will attend an event at Peking University on March 29 before returning to Bangladesh later that night.
The Foreign Ministry is actively working on the agenda for the discussions, with an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by the foreign secretary already held to align Bangladesh’s priorities for the visit.
A curtain-raiser press briefing will be organized by the ministry ahead of Yunus’s departure to provide further insights into the visit’s objectives and expected outcomes.
The visit comes at a time when Bangladesh is looking to deepen its strategic and economic ties with China, a major development partner in infrastructure and trade. Experts anticipate that the meeting between Yunus and Xi Jinping could pave the way for new agreements in trade, investment, and technology cooperation.
