The Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, has described the forthcoming visit of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to China as a significant diplomatic milestone, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and China. He suggested that the visit may lead to important announcements.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following a meeting with Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin, the ambassador said, “We are working very closely on the Chief Adviser’s visit. Wait and see-there may be important announcements during this trip. It will be a milestone.”
The nearly two-hour meeting centred on finalising preparations for Dr Yunus’s official visit, which is scheduled to take place from 26 to 29 March, according to sources.
Dr Yunus is expected to depart from Dhaka for China on the afternoon of 26 March. During his visit, he will attend the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) conference in Hainan Province, where he will deliver a speech at the opening plenary session.
Additionally, the Chief Adviser is scheduled to meet China’s State Council Executive Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang. On 28 March, he will hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. On the same day, he will also visit a high-tech Huawei enterprise.
On 29 March, Peking University will confer an honorary doctorate upon Dr Yunus, where he will deliver a speech. Following this, he is expected to return to Dhaka on a Chinese flight from Beijing.
When asked about international interest in the visit, particularly from India and the United States, Ambassador Yao Wen remarked, “This is a visit between Bangladesh and China. Our aim is to focus on the benefits and advantages for both countries.”
The visit is widely regarded as a crucial juncture in bilateral relations, with both nations working closely to ensure its success.
