The youths are the torchbearers of Bangladesh’s future, and the country is now safer in their hands after the mass movement of August 5, said Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman while he addressing a public rally at Birganj College Ground in Dinajpur on Monday.

Shafiqur Rahman claimed that Bangladesh is now safer for the younger generation following the August 5 uprising that led to the ousting of the Hasina-led Awami League government.

According to him, the uprising served as a wake-up call for accountability and justice, laying the foundation for a new era of progress and fairness.

Shafiqur presented his vision for a corruption-free Bangladesh, pledging to eliminate bribery, extortion, and unlawful practices. He stressed the importance of creating a nation where all citizens, regardless of background or religion, are treated equally.

“Leaders must act as servants of the people, not masters,” he added.
At another meeting in the Saidpur Bus Stand area of Nilphamari on Sunday night, Shafiqur addressed allegations involving Islamic banks. He denied claims that Jamaat-e-Islami seized control of Islamic banks, stating that attempts by certain groups to dominate the banking sector on August 5 were thwarted.

“These forces, disguised as looters, were forced to retreat, allowing the banks to return to their rightful course,” he said. Shafiqur also criticised the Awami League government for alleged corruption and economic mismanagement during its tenure.

“They have looted the nation’s wealth, hollowing out the economy while pretending to safeguard independence. Their deceptions have been exposed, leading to their downfall,” he alleged.
