BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Wednesday said the young generation will play a decisive role in determining the future of Bangladesh, calling on the country’s youth to unite during what he described as a critical moment for the nation.

He made the remarks while addressing a youth rally organized by BNP’s affiliated wings—Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal—at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.

The event was presided over by Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna, while BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman addressed the rally virtually as the chief guest.

In his speech, Dr. Mosharraf recalled that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had founded both Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal, with the aim of empowering young people. “Today, his worthy son and BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman is continuing that legacy by mobilizing and uniting the youth across the country,” he said.

He alleged that BNP leaders and activists have endured widespread political persecution during the Awami League government’s tenure. “Not a single activist has been spared—everyone has either faced jail time or been targeted in false cases,” Mosharraf said. He described party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s imprisonment and Tarique Rahman’s conviction as politically motivated and unjust.

“The youth and students’ movement has been the force that pushed back against this oppression,” he added, referring to recent protests that led to the fall of the previous administration.

Dr. Mosharraf also criticized the current interim government for failing to take initiatives to restore voting rights and democracy through a free and fair national election. “We expected a shift toward restoring the people’s mandate, but no such step has been taken so far,” he said.

He concluded his remarks by urging the youth to stay united and proactive, stressing that their role is crucial in shaping a democratic and sovereign future for Bangladesh.
