Economic Reporter :
Youth unemployment rates in Bangladesh are expected to decline this year though the global rate for jobless young population is on the rise, according to the latest report of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The World Employment and Social Outlook 2016, released Thursday in Geneva, does not motion the current rate of youth unemployment in Bangladesh, but said that the rate is slightly above the average rate for the Southeast Asia, which was 10.91 percent last year.
According to ILO, the share of unemployed youth in the region should remain stable at 10.9 percent in 2016 and 2017. Consequently, the total number of unemployed youth – representing nearly 20 percent of unemployed youth worldwide – will remain just below 14 million (1.4 crore).
The youth unemployment rate in the region’s largest economy, India, is expected to remain slightly below the regional average in 2016, the report said.
