Youth climbs to top of glass tower at Suhrawardy Udyan, detained after rescue

Police detained a youth after fire service rescued him from the 150-foot glass tower in Suhrawardy Udyan.
On Thursday evening, Sujan Mia, 25, climbed the glass tower to the top, said Md Shahidullah, deputy commissioner of Ramna Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). He was detained around 9:30pm, reports the media.
The deputy commissioner said: “While climbing to the top, glasses from the tower fell off and caused loud noises. As a result, people gathered around the place.”
The fire service said that after they reached the top of the tower to rescue him, the young man wanted to smoke a cigarette. However, the rescue workers of the fire service brought him down from the peak and handed him over to Shahbagh police station.
Yunus Ali, inspector of fire service, said: “I got a call from the control room of the fire service and went quickly to the spot. After going there, we talked to the young man and tried to calm him down. At one point, he asked us for a cigarette.”
