A young man named Abu Hanif was beaten to death by a group of local youths in
Khanpur area of Narayanganj city over allegations of raping a teenage girl. The
deceased, Hanif, was the son of Abul Kalam from Khontakata village in Bagerhat
and worked as a caretaker at Itul Villa in Khanpur.
According to Hanif’s brother-in-law, Ibrahim, a group of local youths including a
man named Abhi detained Hanif’s sister and him earlier in the day. During that
time, they were asking for Hanif’s whereabouts. Later in the afternoon, after
finding Hanif, they released the two but began brutally beating Hanif. At one point,
he lost consciousness, and the assailants dumped him on the road.
Locals rescued the injured Hanif and took him to the 300-bed hospital in Khanpur,
where doctors declared him dead at night. The attackers had previously demanded
money from Hanif’s family, accusing him at times of rape and sometimes of
harassment. As the family refused to pay, they allegedly beat him to death.
Confirming the incident, Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-
Charge Nasir Uddin said that police recovered the body and sent it to Narayanganj
General Hospital morgue for autopsy. He added that further details would be
available after investigation. A police drive is underway to arrest the accused.
