World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day celebrated in Sylhet

World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day was celebrated in Sylhet. Thursday (May 8) is the 179th birth anniversary of the founder of the world’s largest humanitarian organization, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the abstract symbol of humanity. World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is celebrated in different countries of the world to commemorate that day. On the occasion of this year’s theme “On the side of humanity”, a discussion meeting and award ceremony were held at the initiative of Bangladesh Red Crescent Sylhet Unit.

Dr. A. M. Sarwar Uddin Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology attend the discussion meetings as a chief guest.

 he said this speech the Red Cross and Red Crescent are working in the service of people all over the world. The Red Crescent is a service-oriented organization. Serving people is the main job. Our life is short. Everyone has to leave. Good work, initiative, service, and good treatment of people should be done in a short time.
The chief guest gave an example, Nelson Mandela was beaten up by a person in jail. He came out and treated that person well one day and made him repent. Since the Red Crescent is a service-oriented organization, it is necessary to treat people well and provide services by explaining them.
The chief guest also said that the previous government had stopped some things, which should be started through discussions. He said that the activities and infrastructure development of the Red Crescent Sylhet Unit need to be further increased. The whole world is now technology-dependent and moving forward, we also have to move forward.

 Mohammad Aminul Islam, Treasurer of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and Chairman of Matrimangal Hospital and Child Welfare Center presided over and Dr. Towhid Chowdhury, In-charge of Mujib Jahan Red Crescent Blood Center, and Momtaz Akhter, Youth Red Crescent member, Sylhet Red Crescent Unit Assistant Director Md. Mizanur Rahman jointly conducted the meeting.

Badruzzaman Selim, former general secretary of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Sylhet Unit, Mohammad Sirajul Islam, general secretary of the Sylhet Press Club, and AKM Abdur Zahir, former teacher of Rasmoy School also attend the meeting as special guest.

Dr. Md. Nurul Alam Khan, consultant of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Matrimangal Hospital and Child Welfare Center, Renuara Akhter, principal of the Sylhet Red Crescent Nursing College, Dr. Umme Khair Khadijatul Humaira, senior consultant of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Matrimangal Hospital and Child Welfare Center, Tarun Kanti Saha, director of the training department of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Dhaka National Headquarters, Jalal Uddin Shamim, former youth member Koyes Ahmed Sagar also attend the meeting.
Before this, the national flag and the Red Crescent flag were hoisted at the unit office at 9:15 am, and a peace rally started from the office at 9:30 am, circled the main roads, and met at the office at Chohatra for a discussion meeting. Before the discussion meeting, the blood donation program was inaugurated and various units were visited and certificates and medals were distributed by the chief guest of the event.
