World Radio Day 2025 was observed at Bangladesh Betar, Barishal station on Thursday with the theme ‘Radio and Climate Change’.
Barishal Divisional Commissioner Raihan Kawsar inaugurated the day by releasing balloons as the chief guest on the Betar premises.
A discussion meeting was held on the Betar premises under the chairmanship of the regional director of the center, Rafiqul Islam.
In his speech as the chief guest at the meeting, Divisional Commissioner Raihan Kawsar said despite various types of propaganda on social media at present, the information and news broadcast on the Betar are 100% reliable.
Bangladesh Betar is playing an important role as a symbol of the hopes and aspirations of all people and the mouthpiece of the nation.
He urged the young generation to be aware of the various ills of using smartphones.
In his speech as a special guest, DIG of Barishal Range Manjur Morshed Alam said that radio has a long and bright history in the development of Bangladesh, including the Great Liberation War.
He also mentioned that radio has a special role in providing weather information and actionable information to people and fishermen in coastal areas during disasters.
Regional Engineer of the center, Ariful Islam, delivered a welcome speech at the event. In a discussion on this year’s theme, radio and climate change, Arup Ratan Talukder, a sound soldier (ShabdoSoinik) of the Independent Bangla Radio Center (Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra), highlighted the outstanding contribution of the Radio Center.
He addressed about the challenges of climate change and in the Great Liberation War.
Professor Bimal Chakraborty, freedom fighters Ebaidul Haque Chan, Nurul Alam Farid, S.M. Sabbir Newaz, Azad Alauddin and Nazrul Islam Khalifa, father of Shaheed Md. Imran of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, addressed among others.
Local dignitaries, journalists from various media outlets and employees, artists, members of listener clubs, officials of Barishal Betar along with around four hundred spectators, were present at the event.
Later, a colorful rally from the Betar premises circled the road and ended at the Betar premises.
Bangladesh Radio is for Bangladesh, for Bangladeshis. Not for any particular class, profession, religion or belief. Therefore, it would not be appropriate to open this state institution for some people and close it for others. Bangladesh Radio will play its role as the spokesperson of the nation by ensuring the participation of all.
Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized to celebrate World Radio Day-2025 at the Sylhet Regional Center of Bangladesh Radio on Thursday.
Sylhet Radio’s Regional Director Abdullah Mohammad Tariq presided over the discussion meeting, where Sylhet Radio officials, cultural figures, media workers and others participated. The theme of this year’s World Radio Day is ‘Radio and Climate Change’. Sylhet Radio has organized various day-long programs to celebrate the day. Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi inaugurated the event. After the inauguration, a colorful rally started from the Betar Bhaban premises located in Mirer Maidan in the city and ended at Betar Bhaban.
Stating that all institutions should be a reflection of the hopes and aspirations of the people, they should be a mirror of the society, Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi said that the programs of Betar should be varied, everything that people want to know and hear should be there. If necessary, feedback should be taken from the people. He emphasized the importance of artist selection, mentioning that it is extraordinary to be fascinated by just listening to the voice without seeing the performer. He suggested highlighting the success of the government through Betar and constructively criticizing the inconsistencies.
He also expressed optimism that Bangladesh Betar will become a symbol of the hopes and aspirations of all people and a universal radio.
Other speakers at the meeting highlighted the historical importance of Betar by mentioning Betar’s outstanding contribution in the Great Liberation War. The speakers expressed their hope that the radio station would continue to work tirelessly to build a nation in line with modernity. After the discussion, cultural programs, sports competitions were organized and prizes were distributed among the winners.
