World Maritime Day 2025 has been observed in Sylhet. On the occasion Bangladesh Marine Academy, Sylhet brought out a colourful rally from the Marine Academy premises in Sylhet Sadar Upazila on Thursday.

This year’s motto is, Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity, Bangladesh Marine Academy Sylhet Commandant Naval Engineer Md. Humayun Kabir led the rally.

Participants highlighted various aspects of the merits of the day in the banners and festoons.

The main purpose of this rally was to increase public awareness about the contribution of the maritime industry to the country’s economy, especially the important role of the Mariners.

It was the country’s ‘Blue Economy’ and an attempt to respect the sustainable sea transport system.

Commandant at the end of the rally Naval Engineer Md. Humayun Kabir said, “Our Mariners are working tirelessly day and night keeping the wheels of the country’s economy active.”

The marine sector is the backbone of international trade, which transports more than 5 percent of the world’s products, and the mariners of our country are one of the driving forces of that trade.

“Such arrangements not only raises awareness, but also strengthen unity and solidarity between our Maritime Community,” she said.

The importance of the sea is immense to ensure the country’s future economic growth, and we hope the government will give more importance to the development of this sector.
