Staff Reporter:World Hemophilia Day will be observed on Saturday (April 17).
On this occasion, the Lab One Foundation of Hemophilia and Rotary Club of Turag, Uttara, jointly arranged a virtual seminar on Friday.
Speakers of the seminar said the Hemophilia is a rare disorder in which your blood doesn’t clot normally because it lacks sufficient blood-clotting proteins.
They warned that lack of awareness it may costs valuable lives from even little injuries.
Dr Md Salahuddin Shah, Professor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University’s Hematology Department and Chairman of the Lab One Foundation of Heamophilia, presented the scientific paper.
Rotary International District 3281, Governor of Bangladesh Nominee Engineer MA Wahab was the Chief Guest in the function.
Dr Zeenat Ara, Vice-President of the Lab One Foundation of Hemophilia presided over the function.
Rotarian Rehan Reza, Chairman of the Asian Pacific Islanders Kansas Democratic Party, USA was present as online Distinguished Guest.
Immediate past District Governor of the Rotary International District 3281, Rotarian M Khairul Alam, Chairman of the Department of Cardiology of Khulna Medical College Prof. Dr. Liakat Hossain Tapan, President of the Rotary Club of Turag Uttara, Rotarian Mohammad Motiur Rahman, Assistant Director of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and Dr Shafiur Rahman were present as a special guest.
Salahuhddin Shah said, “Prolonged bleeding causing for the disease in the joints can lead to impaired joint function. In addition, bleeding can occur in other parts of the body.”
He said that there may even be bleeding in the brain, which is very deadly. This can lead to the death of the patient if the right measures are not taken at the right time.
So the risk of death can be reduced if you can be sure of the disease in time and be alert accordingly.
MA Wahab said the treatment of hemophilia is very expensive.
The organisation is working to provide low cost treatment to these patients.
He assured full support to stay by the side of this initiative of Lab One Foundation.
He said the government as well as the rich should come forward next to the helpless people.
Rehan Reza said that hemophilia can be cured if given the right treatment at the right time.
He assured overall cooperation from the expatriates.
Patients with Hemophilia expressed their views on the occasion. They demanded the government and Lab One Foundation of Hemophilia to introduce one-stop service for the treatment of blood diseases in one hospital.
