World Habitat Day-2025 was observed in the district on Monday with a call for building sustainable and inclusive cities through planned development to tackle urban challenges. A rally, discussion held marking the world habitat day. This year’s theme was “Planned Development Stream, Response to Urban Problems.”
The discussion meeting was held at the local collectorate conference room on Monday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC, General) Mizabe Rahmat attended as chief guest, and Additional SP(Crime & DSB) Mahamudul Islam Talukder as special guest , while Executive Engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) Mohiuddin Jahangir in the chair.
It was addressed, among others by PWD’s Assistant Engineer Shubro Deb Chakravorty, Robin Kumar Das, and Brick Fields Association President Hafeez Md. Khalaquzzaman.
Speakers at the discussion stressed the need for planned urbanization to meet the growing population’s needs while ensuring environmental conservation and social equity.
They said urban development must integrate key components such as transportation, water bodies, disaster management, and new technologies to create livable cities. Emphasized reducing social disparity and building cities that are environmentally friendly, disaster-resilient, and inclusive for all.
