Various day-long programms were held at North East Cancer Hospital on the occasion of World Cancer Day. An awareness rally was organised at the North East Medical College Hospital Sylhet premises on Tuesday marking the day .
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the Boys Hostel ground with cancer survivors.
In the discussion meeting chaired by Professor Dr. Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury, Principal of North East Medical College and Managing Director of North East Private Limited, Professor Dr. A. M. Sarwar Uddin Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, in his speech as the chief guest, said that thousands of people are getting cancer every year due to our daily eating habits. For this, we must be aware of our eating habits. He said that various harmful chemicals used for food preservation and beauty enhancement are very harmful to the human body. Due to the consumption of these foods, people are suffering from various diseases.
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organized by North East Cancer Hospital on the occasion of World Cancer Day on Tuesday (February 4). Professor Dr. A. M. Sarwar Uddin Chowdhury said, we have to bring every day of life within a rule. We have to be extremely careful in the scope of food intake and lifestyle. He said, the way the number of cancer patients is increasing all over the world is a warning signal for the entire human race. For this, he emphasized on increasing awareness among the people.
Speaking as a special guest at the event, Colonel Saida Nazrina of ADMS, Headquarters, 17th Infantry Division, Sylhet Cantonment said, I did not know that there is such a high-quality cancer treatment opportunity in the greater Sylhet region. Modern cancer treatment is possible in Bangladesh. This is a very positive thing.
Other special guests who spoke at the event were Professor Dr. Shahidur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor (Proposal) of North East University Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Mohammad Afzal Mia, Chairman of the North East Medical College Governing Body, and Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, Dean of Sylhet Medical University. In addition, the heads of various departments of North East Medical College Hospital and the respected directors of North East Private Limited were present at the event.Meanwhile, a rally was taken out in the morning to mark the day.
