Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Sher Mahbub Murad said that those concerned should work to increase awareness about village courts and their various facilities. Steps should be taken to keep village court activities active. By doing this, it is possible to easily resolve minor disputes in the village at the union level.
He said these things as the chief guest in a workshop on comprehensive planning with the participation of local government and private institutions to increase public awareness about village courts organized at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner this Monday morning.
Deputy Commissioner said that if public awareness can be increased, it is possible to easily reach the doorsteps of the people of the village courts.
At the same time, everyone involved in the village courts and including public representatives should be proactive. The meeting was chaired by Subarna Sarkar, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department. He delivered a welcome speech at the beginning of the meeting and briefly described the objectives of the workshop on preparing an integrated plan with the participation of local government and private institutions to increase public awareness about the village courts.
Assistant Commissioner of the Local Government Branch Farhana Ferdous Shiuli moderated the AVCB-3rd Phase Project, and Shawkat Hasan, District Manager of Sylhet and Moulvibazar, IPSAR, presented a brief introduction to the AVCB-3rd Phase Project and the goals and objectives of the workshop on preparing an integrated plan with the participation of local government and private institutions to increase public awareness about the village courts under the project, and the role of government and private institutions at the local level through a multimedia presentation.
District Legal Aid Officer Bishweshwar Singha, Additional District Magistrate Farzana Akhter Mita, Deputy Director of Women’s Affairs Department Shahina Akhter, Assistant Director of District Information Office Rakibul Hasan, Deputy Director of Youth Development Department Md. Fakhruzzaman, Probation Officer Md. Tamir Hossain Chowdhury, President of Sylhet Press Club Ikramul Kabir, District Police Superintendent Akil Uddin Ahmed, Civil Surgeon Representative Sujan Banik, Assistant Director of Bangladesh Betar Md. Iqbal Hossain, World Vision Representative Jabir Ahmed, FIVDB Representative Nazrul Islam Manjur, and invited representatives from various government and private departments were present at the meeting.
