A workshop focused on the health risks and control of noise pollution was held on Sunday at the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s office. The event, coordinated and implemented by the Department of Environment in collaboration with the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner, began at 11:00 a.m. and brought together participants from various professions to discuss strategies and solutions.
The chief guest, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir, highlighted the significance of the workshop in addressing noise pollution issues in the region. The event, titled “Health Hazards and Control of Noise Pollution,” featured a comprehensive presentation by Ghazi Mohibur Rahman, Consultant for the Integrated Noise Pollution Control and Partnership Project Training and Campaign. Rahman’s presentation detailed the highest and lowest noise levels in Rajshahi Division and Rajshahi city, emphasizing the critical need for effective noise pollution control measures.
Key figures who participated in the discussion included Divisional ADC Helena Akhter, Director of Rajshahi Division of Islamic Foundation Md. Anisuzzaman Sikdar, ENT Specialist Dr. Md. Asadur Rahman, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Representative DC (CTTC) Sarkar Omar Farooq, and Superintendent of Police (Operation) Mohammad Monirul Islam from the Rajshahi DIG Office. Additionally, Parvez Raihan, Director of the Local Government Division at the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s Office, and other prominent officials contributed to the dialogue.
The workshop was presided over by Tarfdar Md Akhter Jameel, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Rajshahi, and began with a welcome speech from Mahmuda Khanam, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Rajshahi Division.
Speakers at the workshop emphasized Rajshahi’s reputation as a green and clean city, recognized nationwide. They stressed the importance of maintaining this reputation by working collectively to control noise pollution and mitigate its health hazards. Participants were urged to be proactive in their respective positions to help transform Rajshahi into a noise pollution-free city. The collaborative effort aims to raise awareness and encourage community involvement in addressing and controlling noise pollution.
The workshop concluded with a call to action for all stakeholders to actively participate in noise pollution control measures, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable environment for Rajshahi’s residents.
