Sand and stone workers in Companiganj Upazila of Sylhet have vandalized at least 4 vehicles.They vandalized the main road of Companiganj on Tuesday (July 1) at around 3 pm.
Earlier, they started a work stoppage program, mass hunger strike and sit-in program on the call of the Sylhet District Stone Related Business Owners Workers Unity Council. On the second day of the movement, on Tuesday, a program was held in front of the Upazila Parishad from 10 am with all the sand and stone workers of the upazila. After the program of about 5 hours, the protesters took a protest procession and took up position on the Sylhet-Companiganj-Tukerbazar road. There, a group started raising various slogans with sticks and country-made weapons. At one stage, the protesters blocked the road and vandalized vehicles, buses, 2 private cars, and 2 CNG auto-rickshaws plying on the road.
Despite the vandalism, the protesters remained on the Sylhet-Companiganj-Tukerbazar road for a long time of one and a half hours.
Later, a team of Companiganj Police reached the spot and arrested 2 people.
The police and the army are working to control the situation.
It is worth noting that as part of the strike, mass hunger strike and sit-in program called by the Sylhet District Stone-Related Business Owners, Workers and Workers Unity Council, a mass hunger strike and sit-in program is being observed for the second day today, Tuesday (July 1), in the Sadapathar area of ​​Companiganj Upazila of Sylhet. They are holding a mass hunger strike and sit-in demanding the lifting of the suspension order on the lease of all stone quarries in Sylhet, the harassment of truck workers, and the return of business opportunities and electricity meters to all crusher owners.
