A female worker has been killed after being run over by a trolley inside the Roshni Poly Fibre Factory in Srimangal, Moulvibazar. The incident has sparked tension in the area.
The accident occurred on Wednesday morning inside the Roshni Poly Fibre Factory located in Sarkar Bazar of Bhunbir Union. The deceased has been identified as Marzia Begum (40), daughter of Abdul Hasim Mia of Tepra area in Patrikul village under Bhunbir Union.
Srimangal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam said that Marzia Begum, a cleaning staff member, was crushed to death by a trolley carrying factory materials inside the compound.
He added that local residents became agitated after the incident, but police quickly arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The body was later recovered and sent to the morgue.
Local Union Parishad member Jasim Uddin Kamal said Marzia was on cleaning duty inside the factory at around 9am when a trolley transporting poly materials ran over her from behind, killing her on the spot.
News of her death spread to her village, prompting residents to gather at the factory, causing further tension. All factory staff fled during the commotion. He, along with other villagers, helped calm the situation.
An official of the Roshni Poly Fibre Factory, requesting anonymity, said,
“This was an unexpected and tragic accident. We are deeply saddened and will stand by the victim’s family. Some people vandalised parts of our facility following the incident, which is also very unfortunate.”
