A laborer named Md. Abu Mia (56) was killed at Ramgarh Agricultural Research Center in Khagrachhari. While on duty, unidentified miscreants struck him on the head, resulting in his death.
The police recovered his body on Thursday morning, June 13. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Monir Hossain confirmed the incident.
According to the police, Abu Mia’s body was discovered around 9 am near the old Dak Bungalow Ansar camp of the Ramgarh Hills Agricultural Research Center. The left side of his head bore a mark from an iron angle found beside his body, which police seized as evidence. Police believe Abu Mia was killed by this iron angle.
Md. Hanip, the deceased’s younger son, recounted that his father left their home in Ramgarh’s Nurpur village at around 9 am on Wednesday for his duty at the Agricultural Research Center. When Abu Mia did not return home for lunch, his wife called his mobile at around 2 pm, but the phone was switched off. Despite repeated calls, there was no response. The family searched for him that night but could not find him. On Thursday morning, around 6:30 am, they received a call from a staff member of the Agricultural Research Center informing them of the discovery of Abu Mia’s body.
Hanip mentioned that his father had withdrawn his salary and bonus on Wednesday. Money was found in Abu Mia’s pocket, though the exact amount was not immediately known. Hanip stated that his father had no known disputes or enemies, but the area where his body was found is frequented by local crooks and drug addicts. He speculated that his father might have been attacked while trying to stop the drug activities.
Dr. Faisal, Principal Scientific Officer of the Ramgarh Hills Agricultural Research Center, confirmed that Abu Mia was a regular worker and was killed while on duty.
Workers found his body when they arrived for work on Thursday morning. The police were informed and subsequently recovered the body.
OC Monir Hossain stated that the police recovered the body around 9 am and seized the iron angle used in the attack. He mentioned that Md. Hanip would file the case as the plaintiff, and preparations for filing the case were underway. The body has been sent to Khagrachhari District Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. The police have initiated efforts to apprehend those responsible for the murder.
