A court has placed a woman on a three-day remand in connection with the kidnapping of an eight-month-old baby, following a house robbery in Azimpur, Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanam passed the order as police produced accused Shapla before the court and pleaded to place her on a five-day remand in the case filed with the Lalbagh Police Station.
According to the case documents, on November 15, the accused came to the house of the victim eight-month-old Arisa Jannat Zaifa, daughter of home ministry employee Farzana Akhter, 33.
Farzana knew Shapla from before and somehow the accused managed to drug her, leaving her unconscious.
Later, Shapla called three of her accomplices and they looted Tk1.70 lakh in cash, around seven bhori of gold ornaments from the house. They abducted Zaifa as well.
Earlier, the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), however, managed to detain Shapla from Mohammadpur area on November 15 night and rescued Zaifa from her, 16 hours after being kidnapped on Friday morning.
