Woman dies in RAB custody in Kishoreganj

A 54-year-old woman named Suraiya Khatun died in RAB custody on Friday evening, sparking an investigation into the cause of death.

Reports indicate that RAB personnel brought Suraiya Khatun, wife of Azizul Islam from Nandail upazila in Mymensingh, to Bhairab Government Hospital on Friday. Unfortunately, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Kishoreganj District Magistrate (DM) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Abul Kalam Azad responded swiftly. He directed Executive Magistrate Israt Jahan to prepare a preliminary report on the condition of the body.

An autopsy at Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital (SSNI MCH) morgue will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Azad assured that legal actions will be taken based on the investigation’s findings Suraiya Khatun’s husband, Azizul Islam, claims his daughter-in-law, Rekha, committed suicide, but family filed a murder case accusing his wife. He accuses RAB of torture and demands justice for his wife’s death.

Sub-inspector Nazrul Islam, the Investigation Officer (IO) from Nandail Model Police Station, clarifies the sequence of events. An unnatural death (UD) case was registered before the murder case. Rekha’s father-in-law, Azizul Hasan, filed the UD case, and both Suraiya and Azizul were called for questioning but could not be located RAB-14 Camp Bhairab Incharge Captain Fahim Faisal maintains that Suraiya Khatun, arrested with her son on murder charges, fell ill in custody and was taken to the hospital, where she died.
