A severe traffic jam has formed over a stretch of 13 kilometers on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, specifically in the Gazaria area of Munshiganj. Passengers are facing significant delays as a result.
The congestion began on Monday, January 13, around 7 AM, due to a road accident and vehicle breakdowns in the Chattogram-bound lane at the Baushia area.
According to highway police, the combination of the accident and breakdowns led to the traffic jam, which has progressively worsened, affecting a long stretch of the highway.
Bus driver Subhan Mia reported that a trip from Jamaldi Bus Stand to Bhaberchar usually takes about 10 minutes, but he has been stuck at the Anarapura Bus Stand for over an hour without making progress. “I have no idea how long it will take to reach my destination,” he said.
Truck driver Sharif Khan mentioned that traffic has been crawling since crossing the Meghna Bridge, with a journey that typically takes five minutes now taking over half an hour. “I don’t know the reason for the jam,” he added.
Officer Md. Humayun Kabir, in charge of the Bhaberchar highway police station, informed that several vehicles had been involved in accidents and had broken down on the highway. He assured that the vehicles have been cleared and traffic should return to normal soon.
