Witness hacked to death by murder accused in Khagrachhari

UNB, Khagrachhari :
A man, who was witness in a murder case, was hacked to death allegedly by an accused in the case and his men at Kalapani Achalongpara in Manikchhari upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Maminul Haque, 55, a resident of the upazila. Quoting locals, police said Maminul was the key witness in the local doctor Gofran killing case, in which Ali Hossain was prime accused.
Family members of the deceased said Ali Hossain often used to give death threat to Maminul after securing bail from the High Court in the case.
Ali Hossain and his men, including his two sons, lying in an ambush at a place near the local mosque, made a swoop on Maminul and hacked him indiscriminately while he was going to the mosque to attend Juma prayer, leaving him critically injured.
Later he was rushed to Manikchhari Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Confirming the incident, Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Manikchhari Police Station, said Maminul might have been killed over land-related dispute or some previous enmity.
