Once Hollywood’s most popular comedian, Jim Carrey, is now the symbol of a mysterious and lonely life.
The star of ‘The Mask’ and ‘Dumb and Dumber’ once earned $20 million per film. And now he has almost disappeared from the screen.
The Daily Mail reported that Jim Carrey will be presented with one of the highest honours in the French film industry at the prestigious Cesar Awards in France next February (2026).
The French have called the world-famous actor ‘one of the original voices of modern cinema’ and said, “He reminds us that cinema is not just entertainment, it can also be a bold language of art.”
However, after hearing this praise, many have raised the question – was Jim Carrey’s career really that courageous?
The Canadian-born actor has sometimes claimed to be descended from French pirates. In 2010, he was made a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by France. But surprisingly, he has never been nominated for an Oscar.
He hasn’t had any notable films in the past decade. In recent years, he’s only been seen in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, where his co-stars are mostly computer-generated characters. The fourth installment of the series is due out in 2027.
It may be financially profitable, but it won’t add much to his career. His last two films, ‘Dark Crime’ and ‘The Bad Batch’, released in 2016, were abysmal failures. Both films were a disappointment to critics and audiences.
The once highest-paid actor in Hollywood has been virtually unemployed since then, as if he had disappeared. But Carrey hasn’t completely retired. He’s working on a few new projects now.
