Actress Azmeri Haque Badhan has been vocal since the beginning of the July movement. She expressed solidarity with the students and even took to the streets. Since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, she has faced various forms of harassment. Not only that, but she has also been mocked as an agent of the Indian intelligence agency RAW, the Israeli Mossad, and even the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States, according to the actress.
Recently, Badhan has been targeted in online trolling. Celebrities from the entertainment industry themselves have mocked her – something the actress has not overlooked. This time, she has commented on the matter of trolling.
In a post on social media on Thursday, she wrote:’Some of my colleagues have started attacking me personally, cruelly, and mercilessly. These are not strangers on the internet. These are people I once worked with, shared the stage with – people I trusted. Their words have been inhumane, and their intention was to humiliate.’ She further added, ‘They have hurled abuse at me, tried to discredit everything I stood for, and they are still doing it. Many of them are even national award winners. But what hurts the most is not the trolls or attacks from strangers – it’s those who once stood by me, who know me – they are the ones who turned vicious the moment I chose a different path. Their hatred has become so blind, it’s as if they’ll suffocate unless they spew poison.’
