‘What if there’s a case against Faria?’

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury responded to questions from journalists during a press briefing following a meeting of the Law and Order Committee at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon.

Addressing the recent arrest of actress Nusraat Faria, the adviser said, “If there’s a case against her, what should we do? If we let her go, then people would say, ‘Sir, you spared her.'”
Actress Nusraat Faria was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday. She was sent to prison by court order in connection with an attempted murder case filed with Vatara Police Station in the capital.

Commenting on the issue, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki posted a status on his Facebook
page at 11:12 AM on Monday, expressing criticism regarding Faria’s arrest.

During the press briefing, a journalist asked the Home Affairs Adviser about Farooki’s reaction and whether he had any comments on the matter. In response, Chowdhury said he was unaware of what the Cultural Affairs Adviser had posted, adding, “That is a personal opinion. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression.”
