We will help hold free, fair elections Says Army Chief

The Bangladesh Army has pledged to assist in any way necessary to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections, according to Army Chief Waker-uz-Zaman.

At a press briefing held in Rajshahi Cantonment on Tuesday, General Waker-uz-Zaman assured that the army would not adopt the strict measures seen during the 1/11 period or Operation Clean Heart.

“The army will not be as stringent as during the 1/11 period or Operation Clean Heart. We will support the government in every possible way,” the Chief of Army Staff stated.

He emphasised the army’s commitment to supporting the government’s
efforts to implement reforms and organise a transparent electoral process.

“The government is working on reforms and aiming to hold a free and fair election. We will provide whatever assistance is requested from us,” he added.
