Staff Reporter :
The Detective Branch of Police will talk to the US Embassy in Dhaka to bring Jhenidah-4 Constituency’s MP Anwarul Azim Anar murder mastermind Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, back to Bangladesh, said the DB chief Harun-ar-Rashid on Tuesday.

He was talking to reporters at Shahjajal International Airport in Dhaka after returning from Nepal on Tuesday afternoon.

Harun-ar-Rashid said, “We have sent a letter to the United States after the gruesome murder. Since Shahin is a US citizen, we have also informed the Interpol about him.”

Mentioning about the extradition treaty between India and the US, the DB chief said India would also play a role to bring Shahin back from the US, because Shahin is also a most-wanted accused in India.

He said, “The DB will hold a meeting with the US Embassy in Dhaka. We will make arrangements to bring him back.”

Asked about his investigation in Nepal, Harun-ar-Rashid said many often fled to Nepal after committing crimes in Bangladesh. Besides, many Bangladeshi criminals go to Nepal from India.

Many criminals use Nepal as a route. Anwarul Azim murder mastermind Akhtaruzzaman Shahin also went to Nepal from India.

The DB chief said they talked to police at different levels of Kathmandu Police. We also informed them that criminals from Bangladesh often go to Nepal to hide there.

I believe that sincerity of Nepal Police and Bangladesh Police would also grow.

Bangladeshi criminals would go to Nepal and make their safe homes — it will not happen anymore. The Kathmandu Police have received this message, he said.

Asked whether there were any difficulties to bring Siam back from Nepal, the DB chief said Bangladesh doesn’t have any extradition treaty with Nepal.

However, we talked to Kathmandu Police in this regard. Siam is also a most wanted accused in India.

India has an extradition treaty with Nepal.

If Nepal hands over Siam to India or Bangladesh, it will not affect MP Anar murder investigation.

Earlier, the DB chief returned to the country on Thursday last on completion of his investigation in Anar murder case in Kolkata.
