‘We want to play in semis of Women’s T20 World Cup’

Captain of Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket team Nigar Sultana said, ” We want to play in semis of Women’s T20 World Cup.”

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was scheduled to be held at the different venues of Bangladesh from October 3 to October 20. But due to unavoidable circumstances the gala extravaganza for the women shifted to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) .

Though the UAE will arrange the women’s cricket meet but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has all rights including financial rights of the mega cricket event for women.

Marking the upcoming gala extravaganza, the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket squad took part at the official photo session on Tuesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur.

After the photo session, Nigar Sultana spoke at the press conference at the ‘Home of Cricket’. Nigar said, “We shall want to win the first match. Apart from 2014 World Cup, we could not win any match in the World Cup.

We are now playing better brand of cricket. But if we cannot win the matches, there is no value to play good cricket. If we can keep our tempo, we obviously try to play in the semi-final.”

Sultana said, ” If we want to go forward, the World Cup is the biggest stage to go forward. We want to do something well for them who will play wearing the jerseys of Bangladesh.

The first match of the Women’s T20 World Cup is the 100th T20I match for Nigar Sultana.
” The first match of the T20 World Cup will be a special match for me. I want to win that match. It will be a special match for me. It will be an achievement for not only me but also our team. I don’t know if I can play that match. If the Almighty Allah keep me well, I must play the match.

If I can play, my target is to win that match.”
A total of 10 teams splitting into two groups will take part in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Bangladesh, England, Scotland, South Africa and West Indies have been placed in Group-B, while Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been billed in Group-A.

Bangladesh will take on Scotland in their inaugural match of Group-B on October 3, the Tigresses will face England in their second Group-B match on October 5. Bangladesh will meet West Indies in their third Group-B match on October 10, the Tigresses will take on South Africa in their last Group-B match on October 12.
The top two teams from each group will get tickets of the semi-finals. The winning teams of the semi-finals will face each other in the final.

Before taking part in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Bangladesh will play two warm-up matches. Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in the first warm-up match on September 28. The Tigresses will meet Pakistan in the second warm-up match on September 30.
