Thousands of people living in the Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra (DND) area have been suffering from severe waterlogging for years and this year too the area has been waterlogged after incessant rainfall for the last several days.
Many roads, fields and open areas in the area have gone under water due to downpour, devastating the everyday life of residents in Fatullah and Siddhirganj upazilas of the district.
This year, the plight of residents peaked due to the surge in dengue in the waterlogged area.
Already many people have been infected with the mosquito-borne diseases. Local people claimed that the stagnant rain water has turned into contaminated water.
Local people claimed that most of the time, the whole DND embankment area gets waterlogged even in light rain, inflicting suffering on the residents.
They also blamed unplanned urbanization and illegal structures for the prolonged waterlogging problem.
