He was shown arrest on Friday after scrutinization at Shahbagh Police Station while an accused claimed himself as Faizullah outside the International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday.
Shahbagh Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamunur Rashid confirmed the matter.
Monowara Begum, the investigating officer of the case, said that AFM Faizullah had been a fugitive in the case of murder, genocide and other crimes against humanity committed during the 1971’s Liberation War. “He was handed over to Shahbagh police on Thursday when he tried to surrender before the International Crimes Tribunal. He was then arrested after his identity was confirmed by officer-in-charge (OC) of Gafargaon Pagla Police Station to Shahbagh Police Station,” she added.
Defendant’s lawyer Abdus Sattar Paloan told reporters at the tribunal, “I myself do not know all the accused in the case properly.”
The International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday sentenced three to a life term, five accused to 20 years in jail for crimes against humanity in Mymensingh. At the same time, the tribunal acquitted one.
The life term convicts are ““ Mohammad Samsuzzaman alias Abul Kalam, AFM Faizullah, Md Abdur Razzak Mandal (absconding).
Those who sentence 20 years in jail ““ Mohammad Khalilur Rahman Mir, Mohammad Abdullah, Mohammad Rois Uddin Azadi alias Akkel Ali, Alim Uddin Khan (absconding), Sirajul Islam Tota. Abdul Latif was acquitted.
