Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
Students took to the streets to demand reform of the quota system in the government jobs. The demand of the students went from quota reform to a one-point demand of the fall of the government. Common people of the country joined them. Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 in the face of students-people’s movement.
Popular actress Azmeri Haque Badhon was in favour of the students’ movement from the beginning.
She took to the streets to speak for the students.
Badhon spoke about violence and future politics across the country after the students’ movement, and resignation of the government.
Badhon talked about the movement, “This movement is the movement of students; through that movement, Bangladesh has been freed from the dictatorship. Before this movement, what amount of torture, oppression has happened to these students, to the common people, those news were not fully publicised in the international and national media. So, many people don’t know. In the end, the exploited people came down to the streets.”
Badhon thinks that violence is happening all over the country because of the people’s anger towards the government and some of the beneficiaries in the last 15 years.
While talking in this regard, Badhon told this correspondent, “The transactional period after any mass uprising is very confusing. This has happened after all mass uprisings. People have 15 years of accumulated anger. She did not introduce a dictatorial system for one or two days. They have been going on for the last 15 years. We could not speak, and accepted slavery. This movement of the students has freed us from that slavery. Those angers are coming out with the joy of victory. Also there are some opportunistic people. Some people of communal radical thought want to implement the agenda by making this movement a shield. These are not unexpected events.”
“I think that the victory of the students is not being corrupted by these events. For a few days, the students are managing the roads, guarding temples, mosques. We are looking forward to seeing the face of beautiful Bangladesh soon,” she also said.
Regarding the destruction of Bangabandhu’s sculpture and portrait, Badhon said, “Bangabandhu belongs to all of us. He is not only the father of our former prime minister; he is not only from Awami League. And he is all from Bangladesh. He is the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh, our Bangabandhu. What has happened, that has been a very despicable act. This situation has been created because of the previous government. He does not deserve to be disrespected like this.”
Meanwhile, Badhon condemned the incident of setting fire to Rahul Ananda’s house of ‘Joler Gaan’. Regarding talking this matter, this actress said, “I condemn those who have done such a thing. It has been absolutely disgusting work. Rahulda is not only a good singer, but a good human being. He is the kind of person like thinks of as the person of his own soul. I am ashamed and disgusted by the attack on his home.”
Meanwhile, regarding the future politics of Bangladesh, Badhon said, “Politically we believe in the politics of hatred, we believe in the politics of revenge. Some people want to capitalise on it and move on. We have to get out of this place. The dirty politics of revenge must stop. Our students want to free the country from this kind of politics. We will not do any hate politics. Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, ethnic groups – no one is different, all are one. I want to see such a state system, where there will be no discrimination.”
