New camera innovations were also announced alongside the MR headset debut at vivo’s milestone celebration
Dhaka, 27 August 2025 – Global smartphone manufacturer vivo unveiled its first Mixed Reality (MR) headset, the vivo Vision Discovery Edition, at its 30th anniversary celebration in Dongguan, China. This marks the first MR product ever created by a Chinese smartphone company, positioning vivo as a pioneer in both smartphone and MR innovation.
The Vision Discovery Edition is the result of four years of research and development. It is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon® XR2+ Gen 2 platform, designed to enhance entertainment, gaming, and productivity. The device runs on OriginOS Vision, providing a user-friendly and seamless experience.
In addition to the MR headset, vivo used its 30th anniversary event to announce significant upgrades to its camera technology. The new system can automatically recognise various scenes—such as night shots, portraits, or video—ensuring that every photo or clip is clearer and more visually striking. By integrating hardware, software, and AI technologies, vivo has built a comprehensive ecosystem, enabling users to capture high-quality images and videos effortlessly in any setting.
Speaking at the event, Hu Baishan, Executive Vice President and COO of vivo and President of vivo Central Research Institute, reflected on the company’s 30-year journey of persistence, innovation, and vision. “Today, we are here in Chang’an, where vivo’s dreams began,” he said. “This event is not just a celebration of past milestones—it is a testament to vivo’s continued dedication to innovation and progress. Our goal is to ‘Illuminate Beauty with Technology’, always prioritising our users. We are committed to a sustainable journey that will span a century.”
André Kutz, Head of Photonics and Optics at ZEISS, emphasised the value of their collaboration: “The partnership between vivo and ZEISS goes beyond hardware and software. Both companies draw inspiration from user needs and feedback from the global imaging community. We believe this collaboration will make smartphone photography and videography more intuitive and creative for millions of users worldwide.”
During the event, vivo also announced the winners of the 2025 Vision+ Mobile Photo Awards, which received over 500,000 submissions from around the globe. Each entry was captured on a vivo smartphone, reflecting genuine moments of life and contemporary perspectives.
The Vision Discovery Edition and vivo’s enhanced imaging capabilities represent a new milestone in the company’s progress. These innovations promise users a fresh experience and a more advanced digital lifestyle, reinforcing vivo’s position as a leader in technological creativity.
