A month-long basic training course for members of the Union Parishad’s village police force has been inaugurated in Kulaura, Moulvibazar district.
The programme was organised by the National Institute of Local Government (NILG) and the Upazila Parishad on Sunday afternoon, 13 October, at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.
Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner MdIsrail Hossain inaugurated the training course as the chief guest with the cooperation of the local administration.
In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner said, “Village police are one of the most important supporting forces of our administration.
At the union level, their role in maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and strengthening the local government system is invaluable.
I believe this training will further enhance their skills, sense of responsibility, and quality of service.”
NILG Joint Director (Deputy Secretary) Mohammad Zahid Akhtar delivered the welcome speech, noting that 46,000 village police members across the country are undergoing training to modernise the local government system. In the current fiscal year, this training has been organised in 20 upazilas.
The programme was chaired by UpazilaNirbahi Officer Md Mohiuddin and moderated by Mazharul Islam, Assistant Professor at Langla Modern Degree College.
Special guests included Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) ShahinaAkhter and Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Omar Faruk.
Village police member Selim Ahmed also spoke, expressing his feelings on behalf of the trainees.
It is reported that 40 village police members from different unions are participating in the month-long training, which will cover topics such as duties and responsibilities, administrative activities, law and order maintenance, and service quality improvement.
