City Desk :
Two engineers are facing accusations of accepting bribe at the Narayanganj District Council office, sparking widespread criticism.

A five-minute video of the incident went viral on social media on Thursday evening.

The two engineers are current deputy assistant engineer Kanchan Kumar Palit and former assistant engineer Abdul Kuddus, who has recently been transferred, reports media.

The video shows a man named Jahir entering the office and engaging in conversation with the engineers seated at a desk.

Jahir asks the engineers to discuss and resolve matters at that moment, as there are no other people present at the office.

He then mentions the engineer, addressing him as Kuddus sir, and proposes that the work be completed for an amount not exceeding Tk1 lakh. At one point, Jahir handed over a bundle of Tk1,000 bills to the engineers, and they were seen counting the money.

However, the purpose and exact amount of the transaction could not be clarified.

According to various sources, the video was recorded before Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-ul-Azha. Jahir is identified as a contractor by profession.

Deputy Assistant Engineer of Zila Parishad Abu Ashraful Hasan said: “I do not know anything about the video. However, Assistant Engineer Abdul Kuddus was transferred about two months ago.

Deputy Assistant Engineer Kanchan Palit Babu is in charge of Rupganj, Araihazar and Sadar upazilas. And Jahir is a contractor. I do not know anything else.”

Chandan Shil, chairman of Narayanganj Zila Parishad, described Jahir as a fraud, adding: “He has no affiliation with the district council. Appropriate actions will be taken accordingly.”

Deputy Assistant Engineer Kanchan Palit could not be reached for comment.
