Veteran journalist Shawkat Anwar passed away at a city hospital early Sunday. He was 73. Shawkat Anwar, a permanent member of Jatiya Press Club and chief reporter of the now-defunct ‘Danik Bangla’, breathed his last at Holy Family Hospital at around 5am.
He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for the last one month following brain haemorrhage.
Shawkat Anwar is survived by wife, one son, one daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Later, he was buried at Banani graveyard in the evening following a namaz-e-janaza. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of journalist Shawkat Anwar.
In a condolence message, the Prime Minister said the nation has lost a brave and dedicated journalist at Anwar’s death.
“The country and the nation will ever remember the contributions of Shawkat Anwar towards children’s welfare,” she said. Sheikh Hasina also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Besides, leaders of the Jatiya Press Club expressed deep shock at the death of Shawkat Anwar.
