A valiant Freedom Fighter (FF) Sakhina Begum during the 1971, Liberation War, passed away in Kishoreganj ‘s Nikli haor upazila on Tuesday morning at the age of 93.
Sakina Begum had been suffering from old age complications for a long time. She was one of the women who set a shining example of bravery by fighting bravely on the battlefield during the Liberation War in 1971. During the war, she killed five Razakars.
Sakhina Begum was born at Gurui village in Nikli upazila, a haor-dominated area of Kishoreganj. Her father’s name was Sonafor Mia and her mother’s name was Dukhi Bibi. Sakhina was childless. Her husband Kitab Ali died before the Liberation War. Her namaz-e-janaza was held at Guri ground in Nikli upazila after Asar prayers. She was buried in the graveyard in Nikli ‘s Gurui area.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) of Nikli, Rehana Majumder has announced that preparations were made to bury the brave freedom fighter Sakhina Begum with state honors.
It is known from some local freedom fighters and some books on the Liberation War that Sakhina Begum’s nephew Matiur Rahman participated in the frontline fighting during the Liberation War and was martyred by the invading Pakistani army and Razakars.
The untimely death of his nephew made Sakhina vengeful.
At that time, Sakhina Begum worked as a cook in the freedom fighters’ camp led by the ‘Bose Bahini’ in the Gurui area.
