Vaccination to eradicate lumpy skin disease

Khulna Correspondent :

It is a matter of great joy that Khulna, a major district of the southern agrarian economy, has become anthrax-free. The Department of Livestock has been struggling with lumpy screen disease for a year. The government has repeatedly warned about diseased animals.

Farmers could not sell hairless cows in the market. To keep milk and meat production normal, the department provided LSD vaccine across the district last month. Out of 507,000 cows in the district, 3,040 were vaccinated. The incidence is only 0.6 percent.

The disease is seen at the end of the monsoon, in early autumn or early spring. It spreads widely during the high prevalence of mosquitoes.
Apart from cows, its germs also enter the bodies of buffaloes. It does not attack humans.

The virus can also be spread through other insects. The saliva of infected animals can also be spread through food. The virus is also present in the milk of infected cows. Calves can be infected by drinking this milk.

The disease has been prevalent in Koyra, Paikgachha, Dakop, Batiaghata, Dumuria, Phultala, Digholia, Tero khada and Rupsha upazilas of the district throughout the year. The livestock department has not had the opportunity to provide vaccines for years. The LSD vaccine produced in Turkey is supplied to the district throughout October.

District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Shariful Islam ascertained that 9 upazilas are anthrax-free. Free vaccines have been provided to eliminate lumpy disease. The disease has come under some control.
