BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Tuesday said the first phase of upazila elections has outshined the 12th parliamentary election in terms of the presence of voters. Speaking at a memorial meeting, he also compared the current government to “a potted flower plant”, accusing it of being guided by foreign influence in governing Bangladesh.

“Why are the polling centres now empty when you’re conducting elections?…the upazila elections outshined the election held on January 7. Why aren’t voters showing up at the polling stations? When we’re obstructing them, why don’t they go (to polling centres)?” queried the BNP leader.

Gayeshwar, a BNP standing committee member, observed that the lack of confidence prevents people from participating in the voting process.
