The United States has reiterated its commitment to working with Bangladesh to foster regional peace and stability, emphasizing deepening cooperation in trade, security, and democratic governance.

During a recent meeting in Washington, DC, US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Bangladesh’s National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman at the State Department. The discussion covered the interim government’s preparations ahead of the upcoming national elections, expanding bilateral trade, and broader regional issues.

“Deputy Secretary Landau met National Security Adviser Rahman and discussed the interim government’s efforts before the national polls. They also explored ways to strengthen US-Bangladesh relations, especially in trade and commerce,” said US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce during a media briefing on June 20.

The US side commended the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, terming it pivotal during this transitional phase. The Deputy Secretary reaffirmed Washington’s continued support for Bangladesh, the Chief Adviser’s press wing noted.

Key issues discussed included the ongoing Rohingya crisis, US-Bangladesh tariff negotiations, developments in South Asia, and Bangladesh’s path to democratic transition.
