Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has emphasised the need for members of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment to be perpetually ready to meet the challenges of modern warfare through advanced and effective training.
He also urged all members to uphold their commitment to
national security and adapt to evolving global defense scenarios.
His call to action came as he was formally inducted as the “Colonel of the Regiment” at the Bangladesh Infantry Regimental Centre in Rajshahi Cantonment yesterday.
The Bangladesh Infantry Regimental Centre, widely recognized as the Regiment of the Millennium, hosted the grand ceremony with full military honours, marking General Waker-Uz-Zaman’s official assumption of the role as the 7th Colonel of the Regiment.
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the update through a press release.
Upon his arrival, the army chief was accorded a formal reception and was presented with a Guard of Honour by a contingent of the regiment.
Senior officers of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment then ceremonially adorned him with the Colonel Rank Badge, signifying his new role as the ceremonial guardian of the regiment.
During the Annual Commanders’ Conference held as part of the event, General Waker-Uz-Zaman addressed the officers and commanders of the regiment, highlighting its ongoing development, professional achievements, and significant contributions both domestically and internationally.
The army chief also took a moment to pay homage to the brave soldiers of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment who laid down their lives during the Liberation War.
He acknowledged their unparalleled sacrifices and recognized the heroism of all freedom fighters who played a role in the country’s independence.
Praising the regiment’s legacy, General Waker-Uz-Zaman lauded its role in international peacekeeping efforts and congratulated its members for their dedication.
He called on them to sustain their professionalism and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation.
The prestigious ceremony was attended by high-ranking military officials, officers, junior commissioned officers, other ranks of the regiment, and members of the media.
The presence of the army chief at the Annual Commanders’ Conference served to inspire and reinvigorate the regiment, strengthening their collective resolve to serve the nation with honor and dedication.
