Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarker on Tuesday said the parliamentary polls scheduled for February 12 must be “the best election in the country’s history,” expressing strong optimism that the Election Commission is on track to achieve that goal.

Speaking at a coordination meeting with field-level administrative and law enforcement officials at Nirbachon Bhaban in Dhaka, Sarker stressed that the commission expects flawless cooperation in conducting the election. He cautioned that even minor failures in coordination would not be tolerated by the EC.

Later, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin also addressed the meeting, which was chaired by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed. The meeting was attended by divisional commissioners, police range DIGs, deputy commissioners, police superintendents from all 64 districts, and other field-level EC officials. According to the commission, a total of 226 officials participated. Sarker reminded the officials that the Election Commission is a constitutionally independent body accountable only to the law. “Since you are now working as part of the Election Commission, your responsibility is also solely to the law,” he said, assuring them that there was no reason for fear.

However, he warned that failure to conduct the February 12, 2026 election successfully would amount to collective failure. “If we fail, the Election Commission will fail, and the country will fail,” he said.

He noted that, apart from one unfortunate incident-an apparent reference to the killing of candidate Sharif Osman Hadi-election-related activities at the field level were progressing smoothly. Sarker urged officials to remain active on the ground, work in unity, and carry out their duties strictly on behalf of the Election Commission.
