UP Chair allegedly embezzles rice of Eid-VGF Project

An allegation has been started to spread in Shimuliya Union Parishad regarding its Chairman Zahir Uddin Manik about his involvement in embezzlement of 2 tonnes of rice under the ‘Eid-VGF Project’.
This time, before the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the government allocated rice at the rate of 10 kg per head for the poor and needy. Under this project, Shimulia Union gets 13 tons of 320 kg of rice. Union member Abdul Majid lifted all the rice from the local empty food godown and took it to the Parishad warehouse on April 4. When rice was distributed at the rate of five and a half/six kg per head on Saturday, April 6, there was a lot of buzz.
At one point, when the local conscious people went to the warehouse to see if there was 40 sacks of rice less. In this, when tension spreads among the people, a complaint is made to the citation authority. Upazila Rural Development Officer RDO Md. Rubel Mia was present as the supervising officer. The UP Chairman and concerned members tried unsuccessfully to relieve the helpless sufferers. The crowd calmed down when the rice that had been kept aside was brought and distributed to deal with the situation.
Chairman Zahir Uddin Manik said that since it was not possible to bring the packed rice, arrangements have been made to bring it later and give it to the beneficiaries.
Local food warehouse officer Shamima Siraj said that member Abdul Majeed on behalf of Shimulia UP chairman lifted 13 tons of 320 kg of rice from Uthligodown on April 4.
Shibaloyupazila executive officer Md. Belal Hossain said that he heard about the incident from the tag officer in charge of rice distribution. Arrangements have been made to distribute rice considering the overall situation. Necessary action will be taken against the culprits.
