Staff Reporter :
UNYSAB have launched UPOSHOM project in order to help cold-hit people in Chattogram as the temperatures dipping below.

As the winter wind whips in Chattogram, its bite can be especially harsh for the city’s underprivileged communities. With temperatures dipping below 10°C (50°F), the suffering of those living in inadequate shelters or on the streets becomes a stark reality.

Launched in December 2023, Project UPOSHOM, meaning “shelter” in Bengali, aims to alleviate the winter woes of Chattogram’s most vulnerable residents. And the tagline says all the hope of the volunteers which is ‘Ara shitore no dorai” in local language means we are not afraid of winter!!

On a recent mission, the UNYSAB team distributed 50 warm blankets to families in dire need.

These blankets, simple as they may seem, represent a lifeline against the harsh winter, offering a much-needed shield against the bone-chilling cold.

The recipients of these blankets were families struggling to make ends meet, often living in makeshift shelters or on the streets.

For them, even a basic necessity like a warm blanket can be a luxury. The gratitude in their eyes as they received the blankets spoke volumes about the impact of this seemingly small gesture.

“It’s like the sun has come out on a cold winter day,” expressed one elderly woman who received a blanket. “Now I can sleep without worrying about the cold seeping into my bones.”

Project UPOSHOM is more than just blanket distribution; it’s about recognizing the inherent dignity of every human being and extending a helping hand during times of hardship.

It’s about understanding that even the smallest act of kindness can make a world of difference in someone’s life.

UNYSAB’s initiative serves as a reminder that compassion and social responsibility are not mere words, but actions that can bring tangible warmth and hope to those who need it most.
