Online Desk: UNDP Bangladesh, in collaboration with the UNDP Seoul Policy Center and the Government of Korea, hosted the “Voices Against Cyber Violence: Research Findings and Knowledge Dissemination Dialogue” on December 17, 2024, at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka.
The event marked the conclusion of the Combating Cyber Violence Against Women project, which focused on addressing cyber violence targeting women and girls in Bangladesh, says a press release.
The dialogue brought together government representatives, law enforcement officials, civil society, youth leaders, and other stakeholders to share key findings, reflect on the project’s impact, and discuss future strategies for ensuring safer digital spaces.
His Excellency Mr. Park Young-sik, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh, reaffirmed the Korean Government’s commitment to combating cyber violence. He stated, “The Korean Government remains committed to supporting efforts to tackle cyber violence, and this project highlights the importance of creating effective solutions to address this growing concern.” He also commended UNDP Bangladesh for its significant contributions to creating safer digital spaces.
Ms. Sonali Dayaratne, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh, praised the project’s practical approach, stating, “Cyber violence is a challenge even developed countries struggle with. This project stands out for directly engaging those most affected—women and youth—and raising awareness to build safer digital environments.”
The program featured a detailed presentation on the project’s impact, highlighting its success in reaching over 3 million individuals and directly engaging thousands through policy advocacy, capacity-building, and awareness campaigns. A panel discussion explored strategies for future collaboration where stakeholders emphasized the importance of sustained partnerships, policy reforms, and community engagement to safeguard women and girls in online spaces.
The event concluded with the CyberLens Film Exhibition, organized by UNDP Bangladesh, showcasing powerful short films on cyber violence, followed by the announcement of three winning entries.
