BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said there is no reason to delay the election and delaying the polls paves way for undemocratic forces.
“For delaying the polls, we are now hearing the echoes of undemocratic forces being revived. Their voices are growing louder! Through audio and video messages, violent rhetoric is being spread, lockdown threats are being issued, and financial and political support is coming from abroad – these shadows are visible,” Rizvi said on Wednesday at a discussion and publication event of the Ziaur Rahman Archive held at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
He said there is no shortage of money; they have laundered funds from various banks, and with that money, creating chaos becomes easy.
Rizvi said, “We have noticed that some media outlets promote and highlight certain incidents, amplifying the violent activities of
banned organizations. Although many pro-movement forces support the current interim government, we are also seeing that there are a few ‘ghosts’ within the government itself – something we have repeatedly pointed out.”
He continued, “Those who conduct politics in the name of democracy or freedom but have undermined the true spirit of independence – the people and soldiers reacted against them collectively through the Revolution of November 7. The great hero of that revolution was Ziaur Rahman. Whenever we face crises, the spirit of November 7 inspires us. Our July 2024 mass uprising was an expression of those very feelings.”
The BNP leader further said, “Some are saying that the July Charter should be given a legal basis. But first, a free and fair election must be ensured so that legislative and parliamentary preparations can follow. Once a parliament is formed, the legal process can be implemented smoothly. But if the parliamentary election does not come first, how can the process of legalization be completed?” he asked.
