International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam on Thursday stated that the UN report on the July uprising in Bangladesh serves as a solid document confirming crimes against humanity committed by the ousted Hasina government.

He emphasized the necessity of suspending officials or government forces against whom preliminary evidence of such crimes has been found.

Speaking at a press conference at the ICT, Tajul Islam noted that any such actions would be taken “in accordance with the law and under the guidance of the United Nations.”

Highlighting the tribunal’s authority, the chief prosecutor asserted that officers involved in these crimes could face trial, stating, “This tribunal is the rightful platform to prosecute those within the forces who committed such offenses. No individual or institution stands above the state.”

He further mentioned that the UN report on the genocide during the July-August movement would serve as a critical document in court proceedings.

Tajul Islam added that if any party is found responsible for such crimes, legal action could be pursued, but it would require the state to take the necessary initiative.

He also pointed out that the UN findings align with those of the tribunal, reinforcing their significance as vital evidence in the trial of genocide and crimes against humanity involving Sheikh Hasina and her government.
